Group Hug

Type of Activity: Frontloading and Processing

Props Needed: None

Set Up: Need enough room for your group to make a circle. Ask the group to get into a Chicken Soup circle (see The Chicken Game in Get to Know You).  Works well with 2 to 25 (or more) for 4 to 6 minutes.

Process: Have them place their arms around the shoulders or waists of the participants to either side. Then scoot a bit forward until the group is “hip to hip”. We tell them, “This is a nice hug, but we can do better!” Have the group lift their right leg and point it into the middle of the circle. On “1, 2, 3,” the whole group is asked to step forward with their right leg giving each other in the circle a nice BIG hug all at the same time! Great for a “no-time-left” closing for the day!!

Note: Be mindful of participants who might “overdo” it a bit - as always, the right activity for the right group at the right time.

Variations: If there is time, it’s always great to get a hug or a handshake from everyone before they go – brightens up everyone’s day!
