From Here to There

Grade level: K-6

Equipment:  develop a Route Map for each group specific to your wall.         

Objective:  For each group to successfully follow a route map.

Description:  Have the class get into groups of threes.  Give each trio a route map.  Instruct the trios that there is to be no talking during the activity (unless the spotter needs to say something from a safety perspective).  The 3 roles are climber, spotter, and guide.  The guide gets the route map and needs to describe the route to the climber without talking.  After each successful traverse, the roles reverse.  Groups can switch route maps with other groups that have finished so it is a fresh challenge each time.

Rules/Safety/Accommodations: Students should follow basic climbing wall rules.

  3. Was it difficult not to talk?  Why or why not?
