Double Jump 6-Count

Type of Activity: Get to Know You

Props Needed: None

Set Up: Need enough room for participants to move their arms around freely. Plays well with 8 to 25 (or more) for 20 to 30 minutes.

Process: (Please review, Six Count on previous page if you haven’t tried that one yet.) In the   Double Jump version, participants again first count to 6 (just for practice). Then do the arm part of jumping jacks - counting to 6, “One” both arms up, “Two” both arms down, “Three” up, “Four” down, “Five” up, “Six” down – easy. Now, have the participants practice the leg movements – a bit different than traditional Jumping Jacks. Starting with legs together participants jump out, and stay out for “One” and “Two” (two bounces), back in for 1 jump on “Three”, out for 2 bounces on “Four” and “Five” back in for the last bounce on “Six”. So it’s:  out on “One” “and Two”, in on “Three”, out on “Four” and “Five”, in on “Six”. As you already expect, the ultimate challenge is to put both the arm and leg movements together. (See the pictures provided for a visual.) Double Jump 6-Count can be done on its own as an individual challenge. You can also progress into a team challenge - teaming up 4 or 5 participants together and give them about 4 minutes to work out a “synchronized” double jump 6-count. They then will be asked to voluntarily share with the rest of the group – diverse performances can be expected through this teaming.

Variations: Certain groups can have a great time making up their own 6-Count movements – a great creative activity process and more variations for you to share with others.
